# Recording Data

## Record a session

Recording captures the raw data stream for later playback and exports.

### Start a recording

1. Click **Start Recording** (dropdown trigger, not a direct action).
2. A dropdown appears with viewport checkboxes.
3. All viewports are pre-selected by default. You can select the desired viewports.
4. Click **Start** inside the dropdown to begin recording.
5. A red recording indicator and timer appear in the toolbar.

### Place markers

During recording, you can place software markers:

1. Click the **marker icon** in the toolbar (appears only during recording) to view the markers you created before.
2. Press relevant kets to add software triggered markers.
3. The marker is timestamped and placed on the timeline.

### Stop a recording

1. Click **Stop Recording** (dropdown trigger).
2. Select which viewports to stop.
3. Click **Stop** inside the dropdown.
4. The recording is saved and accessible from **Dashboard, Streams, Datasets**.
