# Rename channels (xSys and xBud)

After detecting electrodes, this screen lets you assign labels and descriptions to each channel. This is most useful when electrodes are placed at specific body locations for EMG, EEG, or other biosignal acquisition.

## Edit channel names

* Click the **short name** field to type a new identifier.
* Click the **description** field to add context.
* Changes are held in memory until you proceed.

### Naming conventions

For EEG recordings, the 10-20 system names are common:

* `FP1`, `FP2`: frontal pole
* `F3`, `F4`, `F7`, `F8`: frontal
* `C3`, `C4`, `CZ`: central
* `P3`, `P4`: parietal
* `O1`, `O2`: occipital
* `T3`, `T4`: temporal

For EMG or other biosignal types, use descriptive names:

* `EMG-L`: left EMG
* `REF`: reference electrode
* `GND`: ground

## Channel count

The top section shows the total detected channels in a purple badge, with a **Refresh** button to rescan if you have added or removed electrodes.
