# Impedance Calibration (Instinct and xSys)

Before recording usable biosifnal data, each electrode's contact with the body needs to be checked, that's what impedance calibration does. It's available for EEG headset devices (like the Instinct), and multi-modal EXG device (xSys).

### Starting an impedance calibration

#### Before you begin

Make sure the device is resting on a flat surface, and don't break contact with the GND pin until calibration finishes.

#### Calibrating an electrode

1. Bring the GND pin into contact with the electrode you want to calibrate
2. Select Calibrate next to that electrode
3. Wait — its status changes from Calibrating to Calibrated once done
4. Repeat for each electrode in the list

The head map on the left mirrors this in real time: an electrode glows yellow while calibrating and green once calibrated, so you can track progress at a glance without reading the list.

Once every electrode you need is calibrated, select Continue.
